l\u2019un des fondateurs de la sociologie moderne.<br>Il analyse la mani\u00e8re dont les soci\u00e9t\u00e9s occidentales deviennent de plus en plus rationnelles et organis\u00e9es.<br>Selon lui, la modernit\u00e9 repose sur la \u00ab rationalisation \u00bb : les activit\u00e9s humaines sont guid\u00e9es par le calcul, l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 et les r\u00e8gles.<br>Dans son ouvrage majeur, <em>L\u2019\u00c9thique protestante et l\u2019esprit du capitalisme<\/em>, il montre que certaines valeurs du protestantisme ont favoris\u00e9 le d\u00e9veloppement du capitalisme moderne.<br>Weber distingue plusieurs types de domination l\u00e9gitime : traditionnelle, charismatique et rationnelle-l\u00e9gale.<br>Il consid\u00e8re que l\u2019\u00c9tat moderne d\u00e9tient le \u00ab monopole de la violence l\u00e9gitime \u00bb.<br>Il \u00e9tudie aussi la bureaucratie, qu\u2019il voit comme une organisation efficace mais pouvant enfermer l\u2019individu dans une \u00ab cage d\u2019acier \u00bb administrative.<br>Contrairement \u00e0 Karl Marx, Weber pense que les id\u00e9es, les croyances et la culture influencent autant l\u2019histoire que l\u2019\u00e9conomie.<br>Sa m\u00e9thode repose sur la compr\u00e9hension du sens que les individus donnent \u00e0 leurs actions (\u00ab sociologie compr\u00e9hensive \u00bb).<br>Il introduit \u00e9galement la notion d\u2019\u00ab id\u00e9al-type \u00bb, outil th\u00e9orique servant \u00e0 comparer les r\u00e9alit\u00e9s sociales.<br>Son \u0153uvre a profond\u00e9ment marqu\u00e9 la sociologie, la science politique et la
