consommation et des m\u00e9dias.<br>Influenc\u00e9 par le marxisme, la s\u00e9miologie et le structuralisme, il \u00e9tudie la mani\u00e8re dont les objets et les signes organisent la vie sociale.<br>Dans <em>La Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de consommation<\/em> (1970), il affirme que les individus consomment moins pour leurs besoins que pour les significations sociales associ\u00e9es aux biens.<br>Il d\u00e9veloppe ensuite la notion de \u00ab simulacre \u00bb, selon laquelle les repr\u00e9sentations finissent par remplacer la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 elle-m\u00eame.<br>Selon lui, les soci\u00e9t\u00e9s contemporaines vivent dans une \u00ab hyperr\u00e9alit\u00e9 \u00bb, o\u00f9 m\u00e9dias, publicit\u00e9 et images produisent un monde plus r\u00e9el que le r\u00e9el.<br>Dans <em>Simulacres et simulation<\/em> (1981), il soutient que les signes circulent sans r\u00e9f\u00e9rence stable au monde concret.<br>Baudrillard critique \u00e9galement la domination des m\u00e9dias de masse et la transformation des \u00e9v\u00e9nements en spectacles.<br>Son ouvrage <em>La Guerre du Golfe n\u2019a pas eu lieu<\/em> illustre cette id\u00e9e : la guerre m\u00e9diatis\u00e9e devient une construction symbolique autant qu\u2019un fait militaire.<br>Son style est souvent provocateur, m\u00ealant sociologie, philosophie et critique culturelle.<br>Tr\u00e8s influent dans les
