technicienne.<br>Professeur d\u2019histoire du droit \u00e0 Universit\u00e9 de Bordeaux, il d\u00e9veloppe une r\u00e9flexion \u00e0 la crois\u00e9e de la sociologie, de la th\u00e9ologie protestante et de la philosophie politique.<br>Son \u0153uvre majeure, La Technique ou l\u2019enjeu du si\u00e8cle, analyse la mont\u00e9e de la \u00ab technique \u00bb comme syst\u00e8me autonome organisant toute la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 selon des crit\u00e8res d\u2019efficacit\u00e9.<br>Pour Ellul, la technique d\u00e9passe les machines : elle d\u00e9signe l\u2019ensemble des m\u00e9thodes rationnelles cherchant le rendement maximal.<br>Il estime que ce syst\u00e8me tend \u00e0 r\u00e9duire la libert\u00e9 humaine et \u00e0 uniformiser les comportements.<br>Il critique \u00e9galement la propagande moderne, \u00e9tudi\u00e9e dans Propagandes, qu\u2019il voit comme un instrument d\u2019int\u00e9gration des individus aux soci\u00e9t\u00e9s de masse.<br>Sa pens\u00e9e s\u2019oppose autant au capitalisme technocratique qu\u2019au marxisme bureaucratique.<br>Influenc\u00e9 par le christianisme protestant, il d\u00e9fend une \u00e9thique de la responsabilit\u00e9 personnelle et de la libert\u00e9 int\u00e9rieure.<br>Ellul insiste sur la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d\u2019un regard critique face au progr\u00e8s pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 comme in\u00e9vitable.<br>Son \u0153uvre a fortement influenc\u00e9 les r\u00e9flexions contemporaines sur la technologie, les m\u00e9dias, l\u2019\u00e9cologie et la surveillance num\u00e9rique.<br>Il reste aujourd\u2019hui une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence
