philosophe<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pierre Duhem<\/strong> est une figure majeure de la philosophie des sciences et de l\u2019histoire des th\u00e9ories physiques.<br>Il est \u00e0 la fois physicien (thermodynamique, \u00e9lectrochimie) et th\u00e9oricien de la connaissance scientifique.<br>Son apport le plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre est la th\u00e8se dite \u00ab de Duhem-Quine \u00bb, bien que formul\u00e9e initialement par Duhem seul.<br>Selon cette id\u00e9e, une hypoth\u00e8se scientifique ne peut jamais \u00eatre test\u00e9e isol\u00e9ment.<br>Toute exp\u00e9rience mobilise un ensemble d\u2019hypoth\u00e8ses auxiliaires et de principes th\u00e9oriques.<br>Ainsi, un r\u00e9sultat exp\u00e9rimental ne r\u00e9fute pas directement une th\u00e9orie unique.<br>Il peut toujours \u00eatre imput\u00e9 \u00e0 une hypoth\u00e8se auxiliaire d\u00e9faillante.<br>Duhem d\u00e9fend donc une forme de holisme \u00e9pist\u00e9mologique.<br>Il critique \u00e9galement l\u2019id\u00e9e d\u2019exp\u00e9riences cruciales d\u00e9cisives en physique.<br>Dans ses travaux historiques, il valorise la continuit\u00e9 entre science m\u00e9di\u00e9vale et science moderne.<br>Il montre que de nombreuses id\u00e9es de la m\u00e9canique ont des racines chez des penseurs scolastiques.<br>Sa philosophie est marqu\u00e9e par un certain conventionalisme m\u00e9thodologique.<br>Elle insiste sur la coh\u00e9rence globale des th\u00e9ories plut\u00f4t que sur des tests isol\u00e9s.<br>Son \u0153uvre majeure en philosophie des sciences est <em>La th\u00e9orie physique : son objet et sa structure<\/em> (1906).<br>Il a influenc\u00e9 durablement l\u2019\u00e9pist\u00e9mologie contemporaine et la r\u00e9flexion sur la structure des th\u00e9ories
