consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme le fondateur de l\u2019<strong>utilitarisme<\/strong>.<br>Selon lui, une action est juste lorsqu\u2019elle produit \u00ab le plus grand bonheur du plus grand nombre \u00bb.<br>Il cherche \u00e0 appliquer un calcul rationnel des plaisirs et des peines aux d\u00e9cisions morales et politiques.<br>Bentham d\u00e9fend une vision empiriste et pragmatique de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 : les lois doivent \u00eatre jug\u00e9es selon leur utilit\u00e9 concr\u00e8te, non selon la tradition ou le droit naturel.<br>Il critique fortement les privil\u00e8ges, les peines cruelles et les institutions inefficaces.<br>Ses id\u00e9es influencent profond\u00e9ment le droit moderne, l\u2019\u00e9conomie et la philosophie politique lib\u00e9rale.<br>Il soutient des r\u00e9formes sociales avanc\u00e9es pour son \u00e9poque : libert\u00e9 d\u2019expression, \u00e9galit\u00e9 juridique, s\u00e9paration de l\u2019\u00c9glise et de l\u2019\u00c9tat, am\u00e9lioration des prisons et parfois m\u00eame les droits des animaux.<br>Il imagine le mod\u00e8le du <strong>Panoptique<\/strong>, une prison circulaire permettant une surveillance permanente des d\u00e9tenus.<br>Ce projet devient un symbole majeur de la r\u00e9flexion moderne sur le pouvoir et le contr\u00f4le social, notamment chez Michel Foucault.<br>Bentham influence aussi John Stuart Mill, qui d\u00e9veloppera une version plus nuanc\u00e9e de l\u2019utilitarisme.<br>Son \u0153uvre cherche finalement \u00e0 rendre la morale et la politique aussi rationnelles et mesurables que les
